Great blog as usual. Book clubs are good for sharing ideas too but bthey do have their down sides. Forty eight books a year with twelve DNFs. I know what you mean about time😂. Our reading time is preciously finite. Looking forward next week's xx
I love this, I absolutely loved reading as a child/teenager and I’ve dipped in and out of consistent reading as an adult. Last year I had the sudden realisation that I could just pick books that sounded fun or easy to read or engaging, and if I wasn’t enjoying a book I could simply put it down instead of “forcing” myself to read books that I thought I “should” be reading. And suddenly reading has become joyful again and something I reach for without thinking - who knew 😂
Thanks Maisie, I know I think I had the same realisation - especially after picking up one too many ovetr-hyped books and trying to enjoy them just because everyone else is, and then often I am left wondering why I didn't just read what I wanted in the first place!
Loved this, thank you so much for featuring/quote my newsletter! I'm firmly of the belief (and have definitely written about it at least thrice on my newsletter lol) that reading should be FUN. There is no space for book elitism or snobbery. Given how little free time people have today that isn't geared towards being "productive" or "hustling" every minute, it's important to encourage folks to read what they want and stop reading if they don't like it.
Earthlings is on tbr too; I really liked Convenience Store Woman and The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet has been on my tbr for ages but you describing it as a version of Firefly may just push it higher up on my list!
